That's why pizza is this week's Food of the Month! We discuss the history and cut to an impossible discussion: Pizza Hawaii.

  • WHERE DID PIZZA COME FROM?

The exact origin of the pizza is much debated because it is actually a flatbread and has been baked for centuries in many different cultures. The pizza with tomato sauce and cheese comes from Naples, Italy. Originally, the bottom of this Neapolitan pizza was supposed to be soft so that you could fold it in half twice to eat it. After World War II did pizza become popular outside the Neapolitan city limits. Especially in America, pizza became a very popular dish, and to this day, by far the most pizza is eaten in America. After that, most pizza is consumed annually in Italy. Today, there are different types and flavors of pizza available.

    WHERE DID PIZZA COME FROM?
  • PIZZA HAWAII?

The debate over pizza Hawaii has not been concluded so far. Does pineapple belong on pizza or not? What if we told you that the Hawaii pizza is not from Hawaii at all? The Hawaiian variant was invented by Greek-Canadian chef Sam Panopoulos who immigrated to Canada from Greece in 1954. Before that, he had gotten to taste pizza in Naples. In Canada, the concept of pizza was still quite unknown. San experimented with different ingredients on pizzas. He simply put a few canned pineapple slices on his pizza to see if it tasted good. He found the combination of sweet pineapple with savory ham a strange but tasty combination. And he wasn't the only one: soon many people came to his restaurant to taste his special creation. And the name Hawaii? It stems from the fact that Hawaii was the largest pineapple exporter at the time and the pineapple in Sam's cans came from there. Therefore: Pizza Hawaii.
